Crisis Intervention Training for Law Enforcement and Community Partners

San Bernardino County, CA
Program Year: 2019

The Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) program originally began by training San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department (SBCSD) deputies and academy graduates as a collaborative partnership between the Sheriff’s Department and the Department of Behavioral Health (DBH). The overall success of this training program lead to the opportunity to hire six additional staff for the program. Through this expansion, the CIT program is able to offer specialized training to all first responders and community partners in San Bernardino County. Each training is unique as it is tailored to the specific needs of each requesting agency. Additionally, we are educating our partners on resources available county-wide for an individual in crisis as well as those they can personally access for self-care/personal wellness. This is accomplished by: • Providing ongoing liaison support for the participants and agencies regarding behavioral health inquiries, issues, or concerns they may encounter. • Providing access to a Community Resource Liaison for first responders’ to provide linkage to services or assistance on how to navigate appropriate care. • Sharing personal peer stories in the classes to bring an awareness to their own wellness and symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
