PUBLIC HEALTH NIGHT: HOME RUN FOR HEALTH

San Bernardino County, CA
Program Year: 2019

Abstract:
Since 2017, the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health (SBCDPH) has been teaming up annually with Riverside County’s Riverside University Health System – Public Health and the California Health Collaborative – Tobacco Control Program to share public health messages and agencies’ services and resources while enjoying America’s favorite pastime – baseball! The annual Public Health Night: Home Run for Health (PHN) at the Inland Empire 66ers’ San Manuel Stadium in San Bernardino, California has been well attended since its commencement. The 2017 PHN was attended by 4,892 people, and in 2018, 6,887 people were in attendance, surpassing the stadium’s July 4 crowd, attended by 6,518 people that year. SBCDPH’s health educators set-up booths in the stadium concourse area to provide an average of 1,500 health education materials to attendees throughout the evening of PHN every year. To ensure health information reaches attendees that don’t visit the booths, health messages are broadcasted on the stadium video board throughout the evening. PHN has been a great success for SBCDPH in strengthening partnerships to achieve mutual success in promoting and improving health, wellness, safety, and quality of life for residents and visitors of San Bernardino County, as well as the Inland Empire.
